BRIDGEWATER — Voters will reconsider eliminating the elected office of the town lister and instead hire a professionally qualified assessor at a special town meeting Tuesday night.

The special town meeting will be at Bridgewater Community Center at 7 p.m.

The item failed at Town Meeting in March, 86-53, after moving to a paper ballot. Residents reintroduced the question via petition at the beginning of April.

Longtime lister Vicky Young, who also served as the town’s administrative assistant and assistant treasurer resigned from all three roles effective March 5, despite vocally advocating to keep the office at Town Meeting the day before. Town Clerk Nancy Robinson is currently serving as administrative assistant, but there is not yet an assistant treasurer listed on Bridgewater’s online directory.

Don McNeill, who was elected as lister at the March Town Meeting, subsequently resigned on March 17.

If voters opt to keep the elected office on Tuesday, they will also elect two new listers to fill vacant positions.
