Town Meeting preview: Cornish articles address gerrymandering, green energy fund

Hot topic: A petition article calls on Cornish to “demand” that the New Hampshire Legislature carry out redistricting in a “fair and transparent” way and without gerrymandering. Another petition article calls on the town to establish a renewable energy/energy conservation capital reserve fund and seed it with $1,000. The Selectboard opposes the fund measure.

Budget: Along with votes on various line items, such as $69,254 for the Town Office, the warrant includes a request of $694,552 for snow removal and maintenance of Class V highways and bridges.

Noteworthy articles: The town is seeking $100,000 to be added to a previously established paving capital reserve fund, as recommended by the Selectboard.

Contested races: Longtime Selectboard member John Hammond faces a challenge from Dillon Gallagher.

Where and When: The floor portion of Cornish Town Meeting will start at noon on Tuesday, June 8, at the school gymnasium. Voting for town officials will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the same location. The annual School District meeting was held on May 8, and all articles on the warrant passed. Justin Ranney and Jason Tetu were elected to the School Board.
