Have a weekend Tyler Brand.
Coming off an individual third-place finish at Dartmouth’s opening tournament of the fall, Brand shot 17-under across three rounds in Lake Placid, N.Y., to break the tournament’s scoring record and secure the individual title at the Columbia Autumn Invitational. The sophomore finished nine strokes clear of the second-place finisher, Columbia’s George Rubelsky.
Propelled by Brand and an 8-under display in the final round, the Big Green carded a 13-under to finish in second place, three strokes behind tournament victor, Columbia. Freshman Colin Keith nabbed a 12th-place finish after shooting 3-under, while Fin Szafnauer used a 4-under, 67 final round to push him into a tie for 22nd.
Here’s how Dartmouth’s other fall sports programs fared this past week:
Owen Zalc just kicks it. There’s not much more to it, he said following his game-winning boot Saturday against Merrimack.
Zalc’s 32-yard field goal, his third on the day, secured a narrow 16-14 victory for Dartmouth. The dogfight that ensued in North Andover, Mass., was nothing like the Big Green’s dominant season-opening display against Fordham, but Zalc’s late heroics kept coach Sammy McCorkle’s squad unbeaten through two games.
The sophomore kicker was honored with the conference’s special teams player of the week honors. It is the second consecutive week the Ivy League has bestowed the honor on a Dartmouth player — senior cornerback Jordan Washington won it for his efforts against the Rams.
Make that three consecutive wins for Bo Oshoniyi’s squad.
