Boys Basketball

Bellows Falls 60, Woodstock 54

Key players: Bellows Falls — Carson Clarke (17 points), Jaden Bazin (13 points); Woodstock — Elvis Lavallee (21 points), Caeden Perreault (10 points), Brody McGaffigan (9 points)

Highlights: Bellows Falls got out to a quick 9-2 lead in the first minutes of the game that Woodstock could never overcome. The Wasps got the deficit down to three points with a couple of minutes left in the fourth quarter but could not get over the hump to come all the way back.

Coach’s quote: “Bellows Falls brought the energy from the start and deserved the win. We are still very young with not a lot of varsity experience yet, so games like this will help us at the end of the year in the playoffs. I’m proud of our effort after the first quarter.” — Woodstock’s Scott Brooks

Girls Hockey

Hanover 4, Beekmantown Central (N.Y.) 2

Key players: Hanover — Nora Bradley (2 goals), Katharine Moseley and Julia Lawe (1 goal each), Lucy Braga, Hannah Gardner and Rachel Rockmore (1 assist each), Eleanor Edson (26 saves)

Highlights: Bradley blocked a shot and turned it into a shorthanded goal to put Hanover up 1-0 in the first period. Moseley and Lawe sandwiched goals around a Beekmantown goal to send Hanover into the third with a 3-1 lead. Beekmantown scored a four-on-four goal to make it a one-goal game, and a Hanover penalty in the final minute made things interesting. With the goalie pulled for a six-on-four situation, the Bears held them off until Bradley’s empty-net goal, her second shorthanded goal of the day.

Coach’s quote: “Lots to take and learn from today. We had a better start and played with urgency for 45 minutes. Contributors from throughout the lineup including Eleanor Edson who had a terrific game in goal, coming up with several critical saves in man down situations.” — Hanover’s John Dodds
