WESTMINSTER, Vt. — White River Junction Post 84 used single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to combine with Carder Stratton’s pitching for a 4-0 shutout of Bellows Falls Post 37 in a Vermont American Legion baseball game on Monday night at Bellows Falls Union High School.
Stratton, the winning pitcher for White River Valley in last month’s VPA Division IV state baseball championship game, kept Post 37 (3-2)) bamboozled through 6⅔ innings. The right-hander struck out seven, walked four and surrendered just two hits before being relieved for the final out of the contest.
Colin Vielleux had three hits for Post 84 (3-2). The rising Hartford High senior drove in Ethan Belvin (Windsor) with an RBI single in the fifth inning for a 3-0 lead. Belvin and Nick Martin (Hartford) also had RBIs, and Belvin included a double among his two hits.
Rex Hill took the loss for BF, fanning eight over five-plus innings of work. The two teams turn around for a game at Maxfield Sports Complex on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
