HANOVER — Following a loss to a top-10 Vermont squad during the week, the Dartmouth College men’s soccer team picked up its second straight Ivy League victory on Saturday night with a 1-0 win over Columbia at Burnham Field.

Senior midfielder Eric Sachleben’s first goal of the season in the 35th minute was all the Big Green (5-5-3, 2-2-0 Ivy League) needed. Fellow senior midfielder Garrett Socas had the assist, and sophomore goalkeeper Costi Christodoulou made four saves while keeping his sheet clean.

The victory came four days after a 3-0 loss to the 10th-ranked Camamounts in Burlington.

“In terms of the team, we’ve worked super hard all season,” Sachleben said. “We’re finding our footing now and we’re really coming together in the second half of the season. I’m super excited to see what we have in store for the last few games.”

Dartmouth is at Cornell on Saturday.

NEW YORK — An 86th-minute goal by the Lions’ Shira Cohen was enough to send the Big Green (8-5-2, 1-3-1 Ivy League) to a defeat on Saturday. Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Cyr made three saves for Dartmouth.

“It was a typical Ivy League battle,” Big Green coach Ron Rainey said. “Both teams worked hard, and I am proud of our effort.”

Dartmouth fell, 2-1, at Columbia on Friday night after the Lions scored twice in the last minute of the game to snatch the victory from the Big Green. On Sunday at Vermont, the Catamounts put up three goals in the first quarter to hand the Big Green a 4-0 loss.

Junior midfielder Bronwyn Bird gave Dartmouth the lead early in the fourth against Columbia off a penalty corner, with assists from freshman Florentina Terra and senior Holley Cromwell. It looked like that would be enough for the Big Green’s first Ivy League win, but the Lions’ Elizabeth Brisette and Lily Baker scored 41 seconds apart, with Baker’s winner coming with just four seconds on the clock.

Dartmouth was competitive with Vermont everywhere but the scoreboard — the Catamounts put 10 shots on goal to the Big Green’s eight, and Dartmouth had a 7-5 edge in penalty corners.
