NEWMARKET, N.H. — The Lebanon Post 22 American Legion junior baseball walked its way to its first win of the season on Saturday.

Ben Achmoody and Sebastian Yates combined to earn six free passes, turning them into five runs as Post 22 beat Newmarket Post 67, 15-6, in non-league action at Newmarket High School. Achmoody finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Yates also drove in a pair of runs on a 1-for-3 afternoon.

Ian Smith earned the win on the mound, allowing six hits and one earned run over 2 ⅔ innings of work. Nick Brill stole four bases and scored three times for Lebanon, adding 2⅓ innings of shutout relief.

Post 22 (1-1) is off until a visit to Weare Post 65 for its first N.H. District A league game of the season on Thursday.

Post 22 seniors split

LEBANON — Braeden Falzarano doubled, tripled and scored three runs to lead the Post 22 seniors to an 8-4 win over Sweeney Post 2 in a non-league New Hampshire doubleheader at Lebanon High. The Manchester-based visitors earned a split with a 5-3 verdict in the nightcap.

Down 3-0 in the second inning, Falzarano got Post 22 (1-2) on the board by scoring on a Zack Howland single. He then led off a four-run Lebanon rally in the fourth with his three-bagger, eventually scoring with Jordan Chappell on a Micah McGinley-Smith two-run single to tie the game. Dominic Van Laere-Nutting's RBI single later in the game put Lebanon ahead to stay.

Sweeney scored four times in the first frame of game two and never trailed. Post 22 had a three-run response but left two runners in scoring position.

Lebanon visits Weare Post 65 on Wednesday.

North sweeps VBCA games

WESTMINSTER, Vt. — The North recorded an 11-3 and 12-1 sweep of the South in Friday’s Vermont Baseball Coaches Association North-South Senior Classic at Bellows Falls Union High School.

The North scored twice in the first inning, six times in the second and three more times in the third to take early control of the opener. A five-run third inning in the nightcap ultimately led to an early conclusion with the 10-run rule.

White River Valley’s Curtis Barry had a base hit that helped the South carve out three late runs in the opening contest. Windsor’s Ethan Lawyer contributed to three shutout innings of relief pitching in game one and had one of the South’s four hits in the nightcap.
