Local roundup: White River Junction escapes Post 13

BENNINGTON, Vt. — White River Junction Post 84 jumped to a 6-0 lead through an inning and a half, a fast start that proved essential in a 6-5 win over Bennington Post 13 in Vermont American Legion baseball action on Wednesday night at Mount Anthony Union High School.
Three-run frames put Post 84 (6-4) ahead to stay. Post 13 (5-7) closed the gap by the sixth but left runners in scoring position in its final two at-bats.
Collin Vielleux singled ahead of back-to-back doubles from Ethan Belvin and Danny Bushway in the WRJ first. Bushway later scored on an error to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Cam Tucker singled, Drew Martin was hit by a pitch and both eventually scored to get Post 84 going in the top of the second. Jacob Dwinell provided a third run following a walk in a frame in which the visitors took advantage of three hit batters and another Bennington error.
Carder Stratton handed the first three inning on the mound for WRJ, yielding Ethan Marshia in the fourth. Marshia eventually picked up the win, and Vielleux threw the final two innings for the save.
WRJ went into Thursday night’s visit to Brattleboro to complete a suspended game and play another full one having played at least two fewer and as many as eight fewer games as its other Southern Division foes. Post 84 visits Bellows Falls Post 37 on Friday night.
NASHUA, N.H. — Lebanon Post 22 (4-10) dropped a N.H. District A contest to Post 3 (10-1) on Wednesday.
Shea Curley paced Lebanon with two hits, including a double. Sebastian Yates, Spencer Cunningham and Freddy Mierke also had base hits; Cunningham and Mierke also drove in runs.
